The American black bear inhabits wooded and mountainous areas throughout most of North America, from Alaska to Florida, much of Canada, and parts of Mexico.
We have had bear sightings in at least 40 of the 50 states. West Virginia and many others states, manage the black bear as a big game animal. In at least 32 states the black bears are game aninals.
