Love visiting the Richwood site. It is very nice, I would love to see more pictures of Milltown School. I attended it for eight years but do not have any pictures. I live in Craigsville but return to Richwood often to see family. It will be home forever. Thanks Frances for the e-mail and the sight.

Trout fishing memories on the Cherry River, I fished around the Cherry River in 1993. Did you know The Cherry River begins as two streams, the North Fork Cherry River and the South Fork of Cherry River, each begin in Pocahontas County and flows west-northwestwardly across northern Greenbrier County before converging in Nicholas County at the City of Richwood. The water weren't but a little more than knee to hip deep and between 20 to 60 feet across in most areas, and we went ramp hunting up the hill side and I might add that it was extremely good ramp hunting too. Nothing like catching a few trout, stuffing them full of ramps and butter, wrapping them in foil (seal the top and side edges} and griddle them directly over hot coals or you can brush the fish with butter or make your own marinade. Cook about 4 inch from hot coals 5 minutes. Turn; brush with butter or marinade, cook 5 minutes longer. Fish is done when it flakes easily with fork. I'm not too sure if you would like the ramps but I think their nothing better for seasoned good trout and I like the off aromas that can add to the flavor. We left Richwood with some super fishing memories, and newly formed life-long friendships.

Lived in Richwood circa 1966-67, on Dain Street, we think it was. (It was the main road through town, next to the river & the railroad. Our house was 46 steps up from Dain Street, painted pink, you couldn't miss it. Rented it from the Henry Hitt family, who lived next door & who had a grocery across the road.) Our son was born March 20, 1966, in (then) Sacred Heart Hospital in Richwood. We had a 2 1/2-yr. old daughter, too, at the time. We were members of Richwood Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Harold Keesee was minister then. We'll see if we can dig up some photos. More later. I lived in Camden on Gauley. Attended grade school their. Joined the navy in l947 and spent nine years in service and was discharged here in Washington. I remember a certain girl name Patsy Mullens from Craigsville. She was to get married about 47 or 48. If anybody knows her, I would like to hear from you. I still love West Virginia. I am a direct descendant of Nancy Hart of Roane County and we still have a long way to go on the research of Nancy. Trying to identify family members is a slow process, our nest stop is microfilm and electronic data from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Does anyone know the exact death date for Nancy Hart, confederate spy? I will be back to find the answer to this historical Nancy Hart question. Keep up the good work!

Our first Fishing trip at Summit Lake.
We were camping at Summit Lake camp ground near present-day Richwood early fall day when two bear wandered into our campsite. The bears didn't look hotile but we stay our distant, after casing our campsite the bears wandered back into the woods. It was a great way to end the fishing trip! We'll see if we can send up some photos of the bears.
