Most powerful winter storm to affect Richwood WV since the Blizzard of 1888 (March 11–March 14), Richwood was known as "Cherry Tree Bottoms" on the Cherry River back then, named after the virgin cherry trees which must encouraged the first settlers into Richwood like the Spencer family around the 1880
